Our 2020-2021 Regional Board Candidates Are…

Join NFTY-CAR this April 3-5 virtually as we elect next year’s regional board leaders. We are thrilled to announce that for the first time ever, 8th graders can cast their ballots in the regional board elections. All 8th-12th graders can vote!

Claire Hershenhouse – Candidate for President

Hi NFTY! My name is Claire Hershenhouse and I am running to be your next President! I am a junior at Glenbrook South High School and I run the JSU club at my school. In my free time, I like to play soccer, watch That 70’s Show, and play ping pong. I love NFTY because it gives me a chance to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones and explore my Judaism.

Elijah Evans – Candidates for Programming Vice President

Hey, fellow NFTYites, my name is Elijah Evans and I’m running to be your next Programming Vice President. I go to Oak Park and River Forest High School and I’m an active member of Oak Park Temple. Outside of NFTY, I play baseball for my school, I’m part of a few school clubs, and I love watching quality Netflix shows. NFTY is an outlet for me to be part of my Jewish community, and learn important life values. It’s also been an amazing way to meet some incredible friends and fellow Jews that I never would have known without NFTY. 

Cameron Hirschhaut – Candidate for Programming Vice President

Hey NFTY, my name is Cameron Hirschhaut and I am running to be your next Programming Vice President. I am a junior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School and the Programming Vice President at my synagogue, Temple Jeremiah. In my free time, I love to go bowling, play soccer, travel, volunteer in the community, and spend time with friends. I love NFTY because it is a place where I can explore my Judaism, gain leadership skills, create lifelong friendships, and just have fun. 

Zoe Haith – Candidate for Social Action Vice President

Hey NFTY, my name is Zoe Haith and I am running to be your next Social Action Vice President. I am a junior at Mundelein High School and go to Or Shalom Temple in Vernon Hills. In my free time, I love to play lacrosse, learn more about Judaism, and participate in the Black Student Union at my school. I love NFTY because I get to learn more about Judaism and gain a bigger connection to the community that I love, along with creating new friendships. 

Ania Sacks – Candidate for Social Action Vice President

Shalom NFTY! My name is Ania Sacks and I’m running to be your next Social Action Vice President! I’m currently a sophomore at OPRF and work as a madricha on Sundays and Wednesdays at Oak Park Temple. In my free time, I love to play the violin, work on art, hang out with friends, and come to NFTY events! NFTY is such a special place for me because it gives me a sense of community, lets me expand on my leadership skills, and gives me a chance to meet so many awesome people!

Daryn Kaplan – Candidate for Religious and Cultural Vice President

Hi NFTY CAR!! My name is Daryn Kaplan and I’m running to be your next Religious and Cultural Vice President. I am a sophomore at Evanston Township High School and I go Beth Emet Synagogue. When I’m not partying it up at NFTY events, I spend my time looking forward to when I do get to go to NFTY events, playing guitar and violin, and listening to Legally Blonde. I absolutely love NFTY because it’s a place where I get to express myself, find unique leadership opportunities, and be a part of the most incredible kehilah a girl could ask for!

Emma Shimovich – Candidate for Religious and Cultural Vice President

Hey NFTY CAR! My name is Emma Shimovich and I am so excited to be running for Religious and Cultural Vice President. I am a junior at Niles North High school. However, I am currently studying aboard in Israel this semester through NFTY’s Heller High. When I’m home, you can typically find me running in my school’s cross county team, singing in my vocal jazz group, facetiming my camp friends, or strumming some tunes on my guitar. I love NFTY because it has helped me find my passion for Judaism, song leading, and has helped me connect to other Jewish teens my age. 

Lyla Prass – Candidate for Membership Vice President

Hey NFTY CAR! My name is Lyla Prass and I am so excited to run to be your 2020-2021, 5780-5781 Membership Vice President! I am a sophomore at Deerfield High School and the Membership Vice President for BJBE’s youth group, BJBEsty. In my free time, I love to do all aspects of theatre, sing, hang out with my temple youth group (TYG), and debate at Model UN. NFTY is a place I love so much because it is an incredibly welcoming community where each person can find a home to explore their strengths, Judaism, and leadership and, of course, make new, lifelong friends! NFTY has always been a home to me and so many others, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome others in to make a home for themselves.

Will Martin – Candidate for Treasurer

What’s up NFTY! My Name is Will Martin, I am a junior at OPRF and I am running for Treasurer in the elections this year. I attend Oak Park Temple and was a teacher’s assistant there for 4 years. I like to spend my summers at OSRUI, my favorite unit so far is mosh because of the trips. I like to play volleyball and am hoping to make varsity for my school this year. I love NFTY because of its inclusivity and the friendships you can make even with the short time we spend together. 

Carter Christenholz – Candidate for Communications Vice President

Shalom NFTY! My name is Carter Christenholz and I am running to be your next Communications Vice President. I am a junior at PHS and currently a board member at my synagogue, Beth Tikvah (BeTTY). In my free time, I love being active (rather it’s through gymnastics, tumbling, cheer, etc), learning about new cultures so I can understand varying perspectives and outlooks on the world, and editing videos (which will come in handy for the CVP position). I define NFTY as a key point in my current Jewish identity. It’s truly a place like no other, where we can have this place of comfort for so many different people; no matter race, gender identity, sex, sexuality, socioeconomic ranking, etc. 

Noah Shapiro – Candidate for Communications Vice President

Hey NFTY-ites! My name is Noah Shapiro and I am thrilled to be running for your Communications Vice President!! I am currently a sophomore at Deerfield High School and serve as the Programming Vice President and NFTY Liaison of BJBESTY! When I’m not communicating with others, you can find me performing on stage, daydreaming about travel and brainstorming programming ideas for my TYG. I keep coming back to NFTY because of the irreplaceable bonds that I have built with so many people, and the community that cherishes everyone.
