Camp CAR is a year-long partnership with Cooke Magnet Elementary School in Waukegan, IL. NFTY teens volunteer in Waukegan throughout the year, and then welcome elementary school campers to a weekend planned and led by NFTYites at OSRUI. Campers who otherwise wouldn't get to experience summer camp have the opportunity to meet teen counselors eat three nutritious meals a day, and enjoy activities such as music, hiking, arts and crafts, cooking, and a variety of sports and team building activities – all for free! For more information, reach out to the Camp CAR Leadership Team.

We also volunteer throughout the year at Cooke, our partner school in Waukegan. These events are open to anyone. They are not official NFTY events, but they are a great way to spend time with your NFTY friends while doing a mitzvah with our campers and their families! Apply to Be Part of Camp CAR Weekend 2018
We are so excited you are interested in joining us at Camp CAR 2018! Camp CAR Weekend at OSRUI is by application only. Once you decide what role you are interested in applying for, please fill out the application completely, by October 22nd, 2017. No late applications will be accepted.
- Counselor In Training (CIT) - CITs are freshman in high school who are interested in an intensive leadership development experience and learning to work with children. One outstanding CIT will be selected to be part of the Leadership Team after Camp CAR Weekend.
- Counselor - Counselors are high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who spend the months leading up to Camp CAR planning activities and programs for our campers, and the weekend building relationships with campers and giving them an unforgettable experience.
- Senior Counselor - Senior Counselors are juniors or seniors in high school who have experience working with children, have led their peers in NFTY, youth group, or school, can manage conflict and think creatively when issues arise.
- Adult Volunteer - Adult volunteers support our teen leaders and campers by helping to coordinate programs, overseeing the medical and emotional health of NFTYites and campers, and serving as RAs.
Because we want all of our fundraising dollars to go directly to bringing more children to camp, we are asking every person selected to volunteer at Camp CAR to fundraise $500 toward our weekend together, or cover the cost of attending camp (room and board at OSRUI). Sound scary? Don't worry, you're not on your own - we'll have opportunities like a telethon and resources like emails to send and events you can host to help everyone get their fundraising in. Questions? Please feel free to be in touch with a member of the Leadership Team or NFTY Chicago Director Logan Zinman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All online donations are safely processed through Blackbaud, which encrypts personal and credit card information during all transactions and sends an automated confirmation email for all transactions. You will also get a tax exempt letter from the Union for Reform Judaism.
You can also send us a check, which will be processed through the Union For Reform Judaism/NFTY Development Team. You can send checks made out to Union for Reform Judaism (with Camp CAR in the subject line) to:
