Friday January 12 - Monday, January 15, 2018
- Participate in meaningful social action opportunities
- Wrestle with hot topics and challenge your assumptions during interactive teen-led programs
- Learn valuable skills that will help you build your resume and take on a leadership role at your schools, congregations, and communities
- Learn leadership skills for NFTY and beyond
- Experience a writing workshop from Kevin Coval of Young Chicago Authors, and Louder Then A Bomb poetry slam competition. Everyone will also get a copy of his latest book!
This event is home hosted, meaning families from the Beth Tikvah community will open their homes to our NFTY teens for sleepovers of small groups of high schoolers. Teens will have room to roll out sleeping bags, access to bathrooms and showers, and breakfast and transportation provided by our wonderful host families.
Finals & Attendance
We understand that some high schools have finals the week after Winter Kallah. We value school and learning, and if you need to go home at the end of Sunday night or first thing Monday morning in order to have time to sleep and study, please be in touch with NFTY Chicago Director Logan Zinman Gerber, so we can keep track of when each teen is leaving.
Focus Group Opportunity
The Norton & Elaine Sarnoff Center for Jewish Genetics is a resource for education on recessive genetic disorders and hereditary cancers. The Sarnoff Center is holding a focus group at NFTY Winter Kallah during a meal to hear from teens. Participation is optional. A NFTY alum who works for the Sarnoff Center will be asking teens about how they access health information, what they know about genetics— Jewish genetics topics in particular—and how they think the center can best reach young adults with this health information.
If your teen would like to participate, please fill out the NFTY Parental Consent for Focus Group Participation, which also includes additional information about the community needs assessment and the focus group at Winter Kallah. You can contact Becca Bakal at RebeccaBakal@juf.org or 312-357-4717 if you have any questions. Teens can email Becca the form in advance or bring a hard copy with them to Winter Kallah.
